hey there lovelies and a very happy wednesday to you, wherever you may be. today i wanted to share with you a recent custom illustration i completed for a lovely lady from a gorgeous new business. let the insta-art begin!
of course, i started with the intimidating blank page. stacy had a very clear idea of exactly the illustrations she would need in order to launch her new business venture and with such clear instructions it was easy to put together a set of great illustrations for her in a short space of time.
the first sketch was of a little girl in front of the tv, surrounded by electronic devices as so many young kiddies are these days. i began with a simple sketch, checking my layout and dimensions.
i love my graphite pencil for this – i have a 2b mechanical pencil so it’s always sharp! it makes such a difference when it comes to getting a nice clean line :)
i then added some colour, first with watercolour pencils quite lightly. i love the texture that the watercolour pencils give to the finished piece – much more interesting than just using the alcohol markers alone.
i then added in the alcohol markers, which also activate the watercolour pencils too. i love the effect of these and the cheerful colour tones i managed to achieve with the little girl in this first pic.
i then firmed up the details with my graphite pencil again, before adding in some more of my black fine liner to get the final details squared away.
she turned out cute didn’t she? i am very pleased with this series – such cute illustrations and a lovely business idea too :) here are some more illustrations i did too!
look at this cute little scene. birdies and butterflies and cuteness overload. i really enjoyed working on these. they were fun and full of challenges too!
another in progress sketch. that same lovely little girl from the first picture enjoying the outdoors instead of being stuck behind a screen :)
cute huh? i love the idea behind this business venture – it’s super simple and a lovely way to get kids outside too!
look at this cute little red mailbox :) i loved creating these. i used the same materials for each one – my favourite alcohol markers and watercolour pencils.
here i used my fine liner to firm up my lines before i coloured. i love this technique as it allows me to rub out all of the pencil marks really quickly.
and here he is! i love his colourful cheerful little face :) i did a whole series of these for a new product they are getting ready to launch. if you’d like to find out more about stacy and her business feel free to head over to destination nature to check out her site. it’s really pretty :)
i hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek. thanks for letting me share.
