i created a whole series of art angels when i was over in ireland, and each had it’s own feeling and words.

i began with a little coat of paint – i had some cornflour blue and pthalo blue on my palette already, plus some white and neon orange. i used my sea sponge to get the textured background.

once it was dry, i sketched over the outline of my angel. her hair is deliberately wild – i wanted her to seem to be living with abandon.  to be free and full of energy and life.

here i have collaged some paper onto her dress and sketched in her wings too.

here i’ve added a layer of flesh tone acylic paint and some quinacrodone magenta fluid acrylic to her hair. i am mixing different tonal stripes of hair for her. i want her to seem powerful and full of energy.

here i have added some crimson mixed with silver and white into the opposite strands of hair. i’ve also used some small strips of sparkly gold and silver washi tape to her wings.

she’s starting to come to life here. shading with the pitt pens and outlining her details with my graphite pencil. blue eyes and reddish pink lips bring her even further to life.

a layer of raw sienna watercolour crayon to vintage up her dress and wings, plus some delicate dots on both of those plus her hair. she looks very striking i think – almost like a kind of tudor queen.

stabilo all pencil adds definition (along with the pitt pens). i love the kind of petulant look she has and the dignity she displays. love her.

and finally – her words. she is determined to cherish. to cherish herself, her loves and of course you. i love her strength and her porcelain doll features. she’s a delicate yet strong angel, watching over us.
