Hey there gorgeous sisters, I hope you are well this fine Monday. Today I wanted to share with you the step by step process of An Angel of Dreams.
May she inspire you to create art of your own, supported by your angels and all the while following your dreams!
I began by collaging an entire canvas with music manuscript paper and lots of lovely floral scrapbooking paper I got recently from my local craft store. I used gloss mod podge and a foam brush to attach my papers. Don’t forget to put a book behind your canvas to help you work on a more solid surface ;)
Once the collage elements were dry I added some white acrylic paint and gesso to send the papers a little to the back and some lovely ink spray pink drips for the vintage effect.
Here you can see I have added a little more gesso and begun to sketch my girl. I used a purple watercolour pencil to do that, as I knew that the purple would blend in beautifully as shadow once I added in my paints. She is a whimsical angel with a tilted head and I wanted her to have a sweet, open and smiling face.
Next I began to add layers of paint to her hair and face. I used acrylic paints for this stage and a small and medium square brush. For the skin I used sepia, flesh, white and a lovely burgundy colour too for the shadows. I blended in the paint with the brush, trying to get a good level of contrast and shading as I went along.
After that paint had dried I used a combination of my unipin pens and my stabilo all pencil to add definition to her. I also used my white acrylic paint pens to add some highlights to her face. I added my favourite dots to her hair with my favourite metallic marker pens. I love the detail of that. I also added some of that burgundy paint thinly to her top and using a stencil to the background. I’ve also collaged in a little butterfly wing to represent her angelic ones.
Here I’ve added more definition and shading and also some butterfly barrettes to her hair. Super cute!
After all of that had dried, the last thing to do was to add a little mantra for her. I chose the words 2″Love you as you.” This is significant to me, as I am guilty of not doing that from time to time. I think I’ll be better when I lost weight, or when I have sold more art, or have more students. I need to be sure to love me as me – I am enough exactly as I am.
I also added some stamps to the background. Some new floral designs and a gorgeous new heart stamp roller that I totally love!
And here she is! By the light of the silvery moon all complete and ready to go. I love her!
I hope you enjoyed this little peek at my process. I enjoyed sharing it with you, that’s for sure :)
Have a fantastic day lovelies!
